Its a small world. For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been crashing at the Poshard’s condo in STL and Ubering back & forth to the hospital. I’ve met so many nice people who drive for Uber. Given my destination, the topic of the hospital comes up. This generally leads to a conversation about my son being diagnosed with leukemia. These drivers are consistently kind & offer thoughts and prayers. One went above & beyond; rolling down his window as he drove away to assure me Jack was going to be OK. This morning, I was picked up by an older gentleman named Clinton. We had the usual conversation which meandered to Jack’s diagnosis. At that point, Clinton said, “You know I have leukemia. I’m in remission & I get my treatment here at Barnes. My doctor’s an old Pakistani guy named Abboud. If he told me to stand in the middle of that road (pointing at on-coming traffic), I would. He’s that good. I shared that Jack also sees Dr. Abboud but that this Dr. Abboud is his doctor’s son. When we pulled in to the drop off he said, “You’re in good hands. They put me in remission, they’ll fix him, too. I’ll pray for you.”. Then he crossed himself & drove away. What are the chances?
