Hey friends, as I write this, Jack is still in the hospital following chemotherapy.  Some of you may recall that our 1-9-24 admission was advertised as an all-inclusive 4-5 day stay.  Unfortunately,  we’ve been “upgraded” and are currently here indefinitely.   Our extension started with Jack having an elevated temperature for multiple days.  He was tested for every virus, flu & funk known to mankind… He was negative for all.  In an attempt to fight the unknown infection, they gave him an antibiotic. Jack had a reaction to said antibiotic & is now covered head to toe with an itchy rash. For a couple of days, he couldn’t hold down food or liquids. Additionally, the chemo has caused painful irritation to the lining of his mouth & and throat, so it’s difficult to eat or drink. And if that’s not enough, he’s dehydrated & requiring IV fluids. Essentially, if he unscrewed his belly button, his ass would drop off! On a happy note, Jack is doing his best to be upbeat & do the things he can to get home. As always, thoughts, prayers & positive energy are appreciated. Thank you in advance for your love & support!

Much love! Meg, Rich & Jack

P.S.- this “all inclusive” stay does not include unlimited cocktails…not giving it 5-stars on Yelp!

    1. Thank you, Erica! He’s a bit better the last 2 days. Hoping we can get him home for a week or so before the next round of chemo.

  2. Hang in there guys! Ask them if they have the “magic mouthwash” for the painful throat and mouth. They gave me some and it helped a TON with the pain and helped me be able to swallow to eat and drink water. And if they don’t know what that is give me a shout and I’ll hit up my oncology pharmacy for the deets!!!

    1. Thanks so much. We got the magic mouthwash & figured out a work around to allow him to swallow it without interacting with his oral chemo drug. It’s really helped! He has a good appetite but can barely swallow.

    1. Thanks Aunt Chris! He’s feeling a smidge better & we’re hoping to get a few days at home before his next round of chemo. Can’t let Rich get too used to the bachelor life!

    1. Thanks Rick! I fear the folks at BJC do not offer or tolerate the consumption of alcohol on their premises. Although the rumor mill says that a certain friend of yours had himself a glass of spiked eggnog in Jack’s room on Christmas morning!
