It appears that Jack’s 7th round of chemo is in the books.  For those following along, this was what we’ve called his “easy chemo” (as if any of it is easy!).  He’s had limited side effects; experiencing some nausea & fatigue.  As I type, he’s sleeping & I’m packing all his stuff.  We’ve been told that discharge is pending the completion of paperwork.  We. Are. Ready!!!  After this, it’s one more round of inpatient chemo & then on to maintenance.

On a completely different topic, Jack’s room has again overlooked the rooftop garden & Forest Park.  When we arrived on Saturday & looked out, we realized we’ve seen this same view in three different seasons.  When we started this journey, it was winter.  Bare trees, a barren rooftop & a view of the skating rink in Forest Park.  We joked that the gravel paths on the rooftop were a wheelchair  racetrack for disabled rabbits (we were possibly delirious).  Later trips revealed a greener rooftop, budding trees & daffodils in the park.  Today, the view is gorgeous.  The rooftop is covered in flowers & vegetation.   The park is a solid wall of green. And we’re thrilled that we’ll be ending our inpatient journey in such a beautiful season.  I think there’s a metaphor here given that our journey started out a bit bleak & has only gotten brighter (Deep Thoughts with Meg Randle…for you SNL fans).  As always, thanks for your love, support & positive energy!

Love to all!

Seven rounds of chemo. How did you all, in your own ways, manage that… but you did. Strength, love, support, eyes on the future. A woman at my table in the dining room where I live is 76, with seven years in remission from cancer and is in Barnes just today for her annual follow-up of tests. Barnes is huge in her heart and gratitude. And the woman who is taking her up there says the same thing. Barnes saved her husband who has been cancer free for six years.

The view from your window is gorgeous, nostalgic. Jerry and I and a few other couples used to go to a restaurant in Queeny Tower at Barnes on Sundays for super meals. That was 45-50 years ago. Our house was two blocks east of Forest Park. Many, many walks there and the museums and zoo and planetarium and Jewel Box. Many different dogs came along with us, too, over the years. Such fun. Cherish every memory as you are living it. Pay attention and store it away. That will continue to sustain you. Yes.

Thanks for letting us know the latest in Jack’s excellent progress. Love to all of you.

    1. Laraine,
Thanks for reminding us that the place where Jack is receiving treatment is amazing. The success stories Siteman generates are unbelievable. We’re looking forward to being one of those stories! Additionally, thank you for confirming that our current experiences will be cherished memories. Maybe not the chemo, the transfusions & the inpatient stays, but the delicious meals we’ve eaten & places we’ve experienced as a family. The Central West End has become a second home. My walks to Whole Foods are master classes in architecture & landscaping. As you acknowledge, it would be better if I could bring a dog or two! Maybe I’ll pull that off on my next trip. Unfortunately, my dogs take after their Mom & they’re country dogs at heart. They’ll always prefer laying on the porch watching lightening bugs over the hustle & bustle. Thanks for your unwavering support. It’s much appreciated!
